FAQ Janet Barton 01254 777394
- What area do you cover? I can cover Lancashire and the Manchester area. Occasionally I am able to work remotely.
-But I might need just a few hours a month. I try to arrange my workload to fit more than one businesses into one working day where possible. This is far more cost effective for you, the business owner.
- We have a credit controller, can you help when we need a bit of extra help occasionally? Yes!
- Can you cover short term for holidays, or sickleave? Or to fill the gap between if a staff member leaves while we recruit the replacement? Yes!
- So you just chase for money then? 'Chasing' tends to imply that the money is already overdue. Credit control is about controlling the amount of credit your customers take. If its done right then customers are far less likely to go overdue in the first place.
- I'm ok we use standard letters when customers are overdue. If standard letters work so well then why do people send them out at 30 days and then again at 60 and 90 days? Die hard late paying customers don't even look at them. Customers don't have to respond to a standard letter but they do have to respond to someone on the other end of the phone.
- Won't it annoy my customers if someone phones up asking them for money? No, if done right then credit control enhances the customer relationship. Look on it as your credit controller building a relationship with your customer's payment team, the same as your sales team build a relationship with the customer's buyers.
- Why doesn't everyone have a credit controller then? Large Businesses have whole departments of credit controllers, but smaller businesses find it hard to recruit an experienced credit controller who will come in for ad hoc or short term or part time hours. Until now! Thats why I do freelance credit control, so that the business only pays for as many hours as they need, whenever they need it.
- Why hasn't my bank manager/business adviser told me about credit control then? Most bank managers, accountants, and business advisers only know the theory 'keep an eye on cash flow' but have no idea how to help you collect money on a day to day basis. And of course your bank manager has no interest in telling you about something that will reduce your overdraft and your bank charges!
