Why do business owners always blame late payments on CUSTOMER EXCUSES?

Do any of these sound familiar?

'I'm too busy running my business to ring round for money'  Whats the point of being in business if not to make money?  So, you set aside a day and time to chase round for all that cash thats still sitting in your late paying customers' bank accounts.  You might ring one or two then something crops up in the business that you have to deal with.  The next two late paying customers ask you to call back later, the third and fourth have part time book keepers who aren't in today.  The next few say 'oh right I'll sort it out' but you come off the phone no wiser as to when those late payments will appear.   The next one says they never got the invoice, you go to send a copy but get diverted on the way to your fax machine and it never gets sent.....   Before you realise it, half a day has gone and the money still hasn't come in.  Thats why it makes sense to outsource this task, leaving you free to concentrate on your business while I concentrate on getting your payments in.

'Paying someone to get money in isn't productive'  Is paying overdraft fees, factoring, legal letters, debt collectors, bank charges, solicitors letters etc etc  productive?  It usually works out cheaper to pay someone to get money in.  There's also the fact that you reduce the stress of never knowing when you'll be paid.  Improving your cash flow IS productive when it comes to your businesses bottom line.

I'd rather spend my time selling than ringing round for money'  Ok, so you are busy selling.  But a sale isn't a sale until the money is in the bank.  Do all those great sales pay on time?  Or are you so busy building sales relationships that you feel awkward then asking them for the money?

'I feel uncomfortable ringing round for cash'  Many small business owners just feel uncomfortable ringing round asking for money.  Their accounts receivable ledger becomes something they'd rather avoid - so they don't get paid!
